This course will focus on the principles of aseptic technique/sterile technique that is utilized in the invasive environment such as infection prevention, equipment, hand washing, gowning, gloving, sterile field set-up, and preparation of the patient for the procedure. Sterile technique and asepsis are the cornerstone of staff working in the invasive lab environment. During this webinar asepsis will be defined along with a brief history of asepsis, theories of causes and prevention of microbial infection. Principles of asepsis as it reviews to Invasive procedures will be reviewed. There will also be discussion regarding clean vs sterile technique. Additional concepts that will be reviewed include setting up and maintaining a sterile table and field, patient preparation and opening and handing off sterile equipment. Institutional standards and personal protective equipment (PPE) will also be discussed.
